At our June Gathering our focus was on Kindness.
How have people been kind to you? How have you been kind to others? These were the two questions explored at June 15 Emmaus Gathering. Below are the discoveries the group shared and we’ve labeled them ‘The Kindness Kronicles’. Potentially you’ll see ways your actions have impacted others, or ways others have impacted you.
How people have been kind to us:
- Being invited to a 90th birthday party to share in the celebration of someone’s life.
- Planting flowers for someone to lift their spirits.
- Neighbor cooking for someone who just had surgery as well as checking in to ensure they have taken medications
- On the way to a family emergency the car broke down and an uncle had to step in to rescue her. Additionally, he dispatched people throughout the hospital emergency to address other issues.
- When someone had to close down their business, an aunt come to be an emotional and physical presence of support.
- When a dog went missing over 100 people in the community came together to track down the dog and search until she was found.
How we have been kind to others:
- When a friend had a hip replaced – going to the hospital to be with them
- Running into a woman at a hospital and taking time to find out what they need. Her husband was having surgery and needed to talk to a friend.
- Knowing the challenges of losing a parent and reaching out to connect and share the loss.
- Engaging with the ‘tribe’ of a friend to expand her circle of friends.
- Giving food to the neighbor who’s husband has passed.
In challenging times we long for the simplicity that we had before and feel alone as people go on with their lives. People reaching out reminds us we are not alone and that our difficulties are not invisible to
